The ABSU horde invaded the Bug Jar in Rochester NY and annihilated the crowd this past Saturday night. In the Name Of Auebothiabathabaithobeuee they gave power to the ritual with their Mythological Occult Metal.
Fronted and led by the legendary Proscriptor on drums, Absu is precision and power with their unique blend of Black Metal and Thrash Metal that mathematically added up like no other! ABSU has conjured new setlist for each night of their current 42 city tour – performing songs that span across their 25 year recording career.
ABSU is gearing up to release their newest album, “Apsu” later this year through Candlelight Records. It will complete the band’s trilogy albums : Absu (2009), Abzu (2011) and Apsu (2016).
In addition, ABSU will be releasing special editions of their debut masterpiece Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L. via Dark Symphonies. They have newly mastered it for CD from ABSU’s original DAT Tape. The limited 1,000 CD run will feature a massive booklet with the original Gothic Records cover illustration as well as a fold-out mini poster featuring both album covers.
There is only a few remaining dates left of this tour (See below)! If you’re in those areas, be sure to get out to the show!
Preceding ABSU on stage was Rochester’s own Nokturnal Hellstorm. With a giant inverted cross and a goat head skull on a stick, they had all the makings of a sick extreme metal show. The only thing missing was maybe some war paint to take their unified battle over the top. They had a solid tight sound that quickly won over the crowd. Some band members may look familiar as bassist Dan Lilker is also in Nuclear Assault and Crucifist (ex-Brutal Truth, ex-Anthrax, ex-Stormstroopers of Death), drummer Joe Lionti is in Sarcous and Malformed, and vocalist Ron “The Rondertaker” Blackwell also is in Elfspell and Crucifist.
Nokturnal Hellstorm latest release, “Dominance and Persecution” was independently released earlier this year and available on iTunes. They will be in Toronto this Saturday at Coalition.
Before Nokturnal Hellstorm was a quick set by Buffalo’s Hubris. Although Hubris set was cut short (playing for only 15 mins) they came out strong and left an impression that made you wanted more. Not sure why the club made they pull the cord so quickly, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to check out a whole set next time. And while it was only a 3 song taste of what this band has to offer, it’s clear Hubris is tight, violent and chaotic black metal.
Their new album, “Winds of Iniquity” is available through bandcamp. Hubris will be at Stamps in Tonawanda, NY (Buffalo) on May 7th, with Seplophile.
Opening the night was another Western New York extreme metallers – Enthauptung. Unfortunately we missed their set. According to their facebook page, they are Fast, brooding, and hypnotic black metal about dreams and negative emotions. You can check them out on bandcamp.
