On Nov 1, 2014 – Wayne Static would pass away in his sleep. It was a shock to the metal community. We remember Wayne this week by focusing on him as our #tbt artist of the week.
This week’s Throwback Thursday takes us back to June 6, 1999 – at the Blockbuster-Sony Music Entertainment Center in Camden NJ. It was Ozzfest – Ozzy had re-united with his former Black Sabbath band members as they headlined the tour. That years line-up was Black Sabbath, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Slayer, Primus featuring Buckethead, Godsmack, System of a Down on the main stage; Fear Factory, Static-X, Slipknot, Hed PE, Flashpoint, Shuvel, Pushmonkey, Drain STH, Apartment 26 and Puya on the second stage.
In the summer of 1999 – Static X was new on the scene, making waves in numbers as Ozzfest crossed over North America. Their debut album, “Wisconsin Death Trip” had been out for only a few months and everyone knew their first single “Push It.” Over the next decade, Static X would go on to release 5 studio album.
In 2011, Wayne Static released his own solo album, “Pighammer.” In 2013, Static X would officially break up and Wayne Static would continue on touring with his solo band.
November 2014 – His solo band was just about to hit the road for a North American tour when Wayne Static had decided that he wanted to stay with his wife one more night before traveling to the first city on the tour. That evening he would past away. RIP Wayne! You are missed by so many.
