31 days of Halloween – Day 29
This week’s Throwback Thursday – Halloween Edition – features the Sweden heavy metal band, GHOST with Papa Emeritus I on vocals. These photos were taken from Ghost’s second North American tour, opening for Opeth and Mastodon.
Ghost took the metal community by storm when they released their debut album “Opus Eponymous.” Their sound had that familiar 70’s metal sound, solid and strong that the the metal community embraces and craved in masses. Ghost backed their sound with strong imagery to make it a complete heavy metal package!
Their vocalist portrays a Satanic Pope, known as Papa Emeritus and the other five band members are simply referred to as The Nameless Ghouls . With each new album, Papa has been re-incarnated, if you will, to a younger version of himself. During the Opus Eponymous album, he was simply known as Papa Emeritus. With the release of “Infestissumam,” (2013) the band introduced Papa Emeritus II (who is believed to be the same vocalist, just wearing a new mask). And once again, with their latest album, “Meliora” they release a new Papa Emeritus III (released earlier this year).
Ghost has been currently touring around North America and will be celebrating All Hallows Eve (Oct 30th) by haunting The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (11:35p /10:35p CST on CBS).
