It was a night of “Voodoo” to the witching hour when Godsmack, Papa Roach and HellYeah invaded the Glens Falls Civic Center in downtown Glens Falls, NY.
Storming the stage first was the mighty Hellyeah! Pulling no punches, they came out hitting the stage hard with “War In Me.” They set the mood of the show with lots of energy and crowd participation. Out in support of their fourth album, “Blood For Blood” – their set list contain many of the band’s newer songs from that album: “Sangre por Sangre,” “Cross to Bier (Cradle of Bones),” “Demons in the Dirt,” “Moth,” “Hush,” and “Say When.” before ending with the classic Hellyeah tune – “You Wouldn’t Know.” They sounded tight as ever. Overall, the set list packed with the newer songs really show a stronger side of the band. It’s a more serious about their metal side, which you can’t help but take notice. Hellyeah will be heading to Europe in June, returning to the roads in North America as they will be appearing on the Mayhem Festival this summer, as direct support of Slayer and King Diamond. Mayhem Festival kicks off June 26th in San Diego, CA.
Up next was the infamous Papa Roach who always seems to be “Getting away with Murder.” They too came out hitting hard, pulling in the crowd from the get go. They kicked off the night with “Face Everything and Rise” – the title track off their latest album (F.E.A.R.). They continued to play several new songs off the new album – “Skeletons” “Falling Apart” “Love Me Till It Hurts” and “Gravity” while bringing some older songs back into the setlist like “Reckless” and “Alive (n’ Out of Control)” Papa Roach will continue to play some more dates in North America after the Godsmack tour, including playing the ROCKFEST in Kansas City, MO on May 30th. They will be heading to Europe this summer for an European festival tour.
Headlining the night was Boston’s own – Godsmack! They started out the set strong, playing new songs off their “1000hp” album, including set opener “Generation Day” and title track, “1000hp.” They played some older favorites like “Cryin’ Like a Bitch,” “Straight Out of Line,” “Awake” and the notorious classic Godsmack song – “Voodoo.” The packed arena went nuts during the drum solo battle during “Batalla de los Tambores” where Sully Erna and Shannon Larkin’ had it out. Maybe Will Ferrel should of challenged them next!
This tour winds down in another week or so. Godsmack with them head over seas in June and back for another USA run in August.
