You have seen John 5 do slamming guitar riffs and solos with Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson – now for the first time, John 5 takes his solo project on the road for a night of crushing guitars to flawless country picking, more intricate shredding to Flamenco and Bluegrass!! It really showcases the talent, the versatility and the musicianship that John 5 possesses!

Out in support of his eighth studio album “Careful With That Axe,” which was released last summer (Aug 2014), John 5 and The Creatures are making waves across North America, which truly something to see. Live, the band consist of John 5 (guitar), Ian Ross (bass) and Rodger Carter (drums).

The set list is set heavily on songs from “Careful With That Axe,” as well as songs off his previous solos albums. Oh course my favorites of the night were the heavier songs like ”This Is My Rifle” and “Portrait of Sidney Sloan,” but really it was fun to see all the different style and techniques including John 5’s flamenco style on “El Cucuy” to his country pickin technique on the happy little tune “Jiffy Jam” (a Jerry Reed cover). Not to mention his rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” was smoking. “The Creatures” are equally as talented musicians. It was a nice surprise to see the bass solo during “Feisty Cadavers.”

I had only seen John 5 with Rob Zombie. Those shows always have alot of elements on stage, making it impossible to focus in on one thing for too long. It was great to watch John 5 showcase what he was all about.
There really were many “hats” that make up John 5. His set was full of surprises too from the outfit changes to the amazing set of guitars. Some guitars were more technical and some were just plain fun like the one that completely lights up and the another guitar that was see through and looked like a neon green lava lamp.

All over it wa really a great night of instrumental madness. Hopefully John 5 will do it again. John 5 and the Creatures continue across North America. (See below for the remaining). John 5 will be hooking back up with Rob Zombie as they hit the road June. Rob Zombie will be in Big Flats NY on June 19, 2015 playing at Tags Summerstage.
