It’s An United World Rebellion when Skid Row pulled into to Jim Thorpe PA, with Saliva and LA Guns by their side. It was a night of straight up rock n’ roll, the punch you in the face kind of show! The crowd raised their goblet of rock as it was one of the best seen!!
First up was those Vamps from Hollywood – Glam Rockers, LA GUNS! This was actually my first time getting to see this band. Despite always wanting to catch their show, for one reason or another I seemed to miss them every time they came to town. I was excited to finally see what their live show is all about. They were excellent and their sound was spot on! Their set list was a really good mix of what the band has created over the past 25yrs. Phil Lewis rocked the mic, showing off his vocal skills and showing that he’s still got it after all the years!!! As did Scotty Griffin on Bass, Steve Riley on drums and Michael Grant on Guitar. Although to my surprise, they were first on the bill, they packed the venue early and all were ready to rock. If you like 80’s glam rock, you need to get to an LA GUNS show as this is the real deal!
Second on the bill was Saliva. When I saw this band was on the bill, I was a little taken back. This band fits more into the modern rock stations and draws in a younger crowd. It seems like they should be doing the modern rock – radio station festival circuit this summer. Yet seeing them in between Skid Row and LA Guns somehow made sense. Maybe it the struggle of loosing band members as the band going on; I don’t know, but it work. This was the first time seeing them with their new frontman, Bobby Amaru – he picked up right where Josey Scott left off, giving his own twist. He lead the band with the same energy as I remember Saliva being all about – Saliva fans, you won’t be disapointed. Saliva looks to release their new album, “In It To Win It” this summer through Rum Bum Records.
Headlining the night was the one, the only, SKID ROW! They kicked off the night, hard and in your face with “Slave to The Grind!” From there, they went straight into “Big Guns” and next into “Piece of Me!” How could a crowd not be pumped with a start like that!! I can’t say enough great things about these guys as they always put on an excellent show! I love how the changed up their set list this time around, adding back in some old favorites like “In a Darkened Room” and “Mudkicker” while keeping the old faves like “Makin A Mess” “18 and Life” and of course “Youth Gone Wild.” This time around, they added played a few new tracks – “Let it Go” and “King Of Demolition”- off their recently released EP, United World Rebellion -Chapter One. Both new songs pack a punch and were excellent to hear live as they bring you back to those early Skid Row years. The United World Rebellion -Chapter One was release earlier this year, as a Chapter Two EP is also in the works. Be on the look out as Skid Row once again embarks on a World tour!
All three bands rocked the house, making for one killer show!! Don’t worry if you missed it. La Guns, Saliva and Skid Row will be returning to Akron NY in September. For more info or where else you can catch these bands, check out the links below.
