The Orpheum Theatre was the place to be on April 5th when Ghost, Mastodon and Opeth took the stage for a night of great music.

First up was Ghost whom I was most excited to see. I have seen Mastodon and Opeth on many occasions and they always deliver stellar performances. But this would be my first time seeing Ghost and I must say they are amazing! From the catchy riffs and hooks to the clean vocals they bring back a nostalgic sound which I haven’t heard since I first listened to Mercyful Fate back in the 80’s. The stage presence and delivery of each song was right on cue. Satan’s Prayer stands out as one of my favs along with the Ritiual both great songs and even better live! Ghost are a refreshing and entertaining band breathing new life into the metal scene, a must see live. Their debut album Opus Eponymous has been well received and I highly recommend it! “Sathanas…We Are One…Out Of Three…Trinity” All hail our lord Satan!

Next up was Mastodon in support of their latest release The Hunter. Mastodon deliver their unique blend of metal which reminds me of something from the 70’s but a bit heavier. When this tour ends, Mastodon will hit the stage at this years Rock On The Range in Columbus, OH. From there, they will be heading to Europe. Check their website for more info.

Headlining the evening was the masters of progressive doom, prog metal Opeth. Having been a fan of this band from way back it has been interesting to see their progression from a more doom death metal band into the progressive metal rock band they are today. Their musicianship has always been amazing and they continue to push their sound and challenge their listeners to hear things differently. Out in support of their latest release Heritage, Opeth are setting the stage for this genre of music.
