Kevin Devine and the “Goddamn Band” a group from Brooklyn NY warmed up the stage for headliner Thrice. Kevin and the crew Pushed through a set of fast and slow indie/folk-rock to a packed house at Northern Lights in Clifton Park NY. They performed for fans playing eyes closed purely in the zone and using the whole stage to give a great performance. Kevin even joked around towards the end of the set playing the intro to “Enter Sandman” and imitating Jay-Z from a recent show they attended together in Brooklyn.
After a brief break, Thrice came on to an excited crowd. Kicking off their set w/ one of their newest “All the World is Mad” from their newest album “Beggars,” the crowd immediately unified into an energetic mass with the throbbing beat. A wide selection of old and new material
was performed. Including one song which Dustin the lead singer claimed they don’t usually play live. One Fan replied “Play them all!” Dustin replied,”well it is the longest day of the year” (The show was on the first day of summer) sending the crowd into an uproar of excitement. Throughout the night fans jokingly shouted “Freebird” and “Deadbolt” between songs. Dustin explained to them how they have played “Deadbolt” at every show for the last 10 years and they decided to give that song a break for a little while. Band members constantly switched guitars and picked up secondary instruments like keyboards and tambourines. At one point Kevin Devine’s drummer and another musician jumped onstage for the breakdown in “The Earth Will Shake” beating their floor toms in unison. Thrice may have left out “Deadbolt” this time but left fans with another classic “To Awake and Avenge the Dead” going out with a bang!
