The sweat was dripping from the ceiling when Cold, NonPoint, Day of Fire, Edison, Bullet Proof Messenger and Effects of Eden steamed up Northern Lights Nightclub in Clifton Park, NY.
Local Rockers, Effects Of Eden kicked off the night. They have a very radio friendly sound that would stand alongside bands such as Three Days Grace, Saliva, and Shinedown. The band shows a lot of promise and drive which should take them far. Be sure to catch them while they’re out on tour around the Northeast US.
Second to take the stage was Bullet Proof Messenger. Their music has elements of electronics mixed in with a heavier rock sound. Their latest self-released album is called “Arm Yourself.” Look for them to be playing around New York, Pennsylvania and Montreal.
Next up was New York’s Edison with their underground rock-n-roll spirit. Hailing from various parts of the US, Edison took up residence on a ranch in the Blackhead Mountains (New York State). It once was a famous cowboy ranch that had been abandoned. The band, together with a few of their friends, brought it back to life and it is now an esteemed place for local and national recording artist to gather, including Parliament Funkadelic, members of Lenny Kravitz, The B-52’s and The Dave Matthews Band. Edison’s guitarist Jonathan Svec was formerly part of the band Splender.Edison was one of the first bands to shoot a music video while over in Iraq performing for the troops. You can view their music video “Fly” below:
It was Edison’s last night on the tour and NonPoint was there to show their full support. Between Edison’s songs Nonpoint’s vocalist, Elis Soriano came out to thank them for being on tour and to whip up the crowd a little as he shouted out “These guys are Fucking Awesome!”. At the end of their set, NonPoint’s guitarist, Zach Broderick also joined them on the stage for their last song. During the last minute of Edison’s song roadies were busy onstage dismantling the drum set, piece by piece, while drummer, Todd Budich continued on in good humor surprisingly never seeming to miss a beat. He even appeared to be laughing about the situation since it seemed it was a sort of ball busting farewell from Nonpoint.
.
Nashville’s Christian rock band Day Of Fire was fourth to take the stage, fronted by Josh Brown, the former singer for Full Devil Jacket. They brought a great energy and charisma to the stage with their lead singer having a sort of ‘Metal Bono’ quality about him. Someone in the crowd mentioned that the entire band seemed to be just a ‘little too pretty’ for metal and with the two brothers, Joe and Chris Pangallo, and a the sweet, energetic drummer, Zach Simms, you might be surprised to see them performing at a metal show at first glance. However, the band brings more than few cute faces to the show; they bring a message. Since Josh Brown’s near brush with death in his former band, his life and music conveys a message about hope and second chances. On stage they are loads of fun to watch and ‘Metal Bono’ (Josh) sings with sincerity and quite a touch of glamour. Day of Fire’s first self-titled debut album was produced by Scott Humphrey, who also worked with Metallica and Rob Zombie. It won a Dove award and was nominated for a Grammy. They are out in support of their third album “Losing All”. Chris Daughtry co-wrote three tracks on the album including “Hello Heartache”. All the main tracks on “Losing All” were laid down live. (Jan 2010).
With a new guitarist and a new album on it’s way, Florida’s NonPoint took the stage with the crowd in a frenzy! The air was heavy with anticipation as the fans all surged toward the front trying to get as close as the security guards would allow them to their metal gods.Singer Elis had fantastic energy as he whipped his long dreds around, winding them up and down in a mesmerizing way I have yet to see duplicated elsewhere. They were like jellyfish tentacles trying to wrap around their prey in an epic struggle. He worked his hair as natural as he worked the crowd. Everyone in the place was jumping and the energy was very intense. Understandably this band has rocked with some of the best in metal going on such tours as Ozzfest and Locobazooka. they have a very large and loyal fan base. Their fourth major album “To The Pain” has sold over 130,000 copies in the United States as of September 2008. Nonpoint recently went into the studio with YEP! Productions (Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett’s (Mudvayne/HellYeah) production company). Look for their newest album to come out May 2010.
The last band of the night was double gold-album band Cold, from Jacksonville Florida. They reunited last year and look to release a new album, entitled Epic” in Spring/Summer 2010.
